Sanitary Commission Quilts
Time & Location
About the Event
Join Abagail Belcastro, the secretary and Civilian Coordinator for the Second NJ Brigade, for a lecture on the Civil War Sanitary Commission and their impact on the Union army through quiltmaking. She will also provide a follow-along workshop to make your own 9-patch potholder.
This event will be hosted VIRTUALLY via WebEx. Those who register will receive a link upon complete registration.
Supplies for those interested in following along with the workshop include:
- 9 five-inch squares of cotton fabric (I suggest 2 contrasting prints or colors)
- 1/4 - 1/2 yard of backing fabric (color of your choice)
- quilt batting
- quilt binding (can be made from strips of leftover fabric)
- needle and thread
- Sewing machine (optional)
This program is free and open to the public. It is Presented by the Passaic County Board of County Commissioners, and the City of Clifton. It is funded in part by the Passaic County Cultural Heritage Council, a parent of the New Jersey State Council of the Arts.
